Terms & Conditions of Sale, Casting Service and Web-use.

Payment Methods

For purchases through the webshop we accept most major debit and credit cards through our secure server. We also accept direct payments for items in the webshop from Paypal accounts for those that have them, along with cheques to the address on the contacts page made payable to C.J.Munn with your name, address and details of order on the back of the cheque. Payment by BACS (direct bank transfer) is also accepted by arrangement. Please email for details. By ordering goods online, you are entering into a legally binding contract. This does not affect your consumer rights. All prices are listed in GB pounds and are subject to change at any time. For cheque payments, we reserve the right to clear cheques before shipping your item.

For commissioning lifecasts at our studio, a 50% deposit by either cheque or BACS payment is required in advance of the appointment date to secure the booking, and the balance is payable either in one final payment or in instalments (by arrangement in advance) as long as the final balance is cleared on completion (usually around 3 months for plaster casts, longer for some other materials but we will provide an estimate of time once we know your order details). Customers who wish to take longer than the usual 3 months to complete payment must first get agreement in writing from Rockabelly Lifecasts and stick to any agreed payment deadlines. Payments can be made by cash, BACS or cheque for most lifecasting appointments (with BACS being a preference).

The deposit is non-refundable in the event of absolute cancellation, but if you need to change the date or time of your appointment or transfer the balance towards a different kind of casting then this is usually acceptable as long as you let us know as soon as possible.

Where late bookings are agreed and there has not been time to pay a deposit in advance of the booking, the agreed deposit is still payable (owed) in the event of late cancellation or failure to turn up for an appointment, to cover material costs and other miscellaneous expenses incurred by Rockabelly Lifecasts unless another client takes your booking slot and/or the artist agrees to waive this fee at their discretion.

For private life casting commissions, the products remain our property until payment is made in full. The copyright of the piece itself as well as images of the piece used in publicity or marketing material continues to remain the property of Rockabelly Lifecasts at all times unless otherwise negotiated at the time of booking/payment. For commissions where a silicone mould is made of the plaster original at the client's request, we will retain this mould for one year in case the client wishes for further copies to be made, and longer by arrangement.

Delivery of Purchases from our Webshop

We aim to ship all kits and gift vouchers within 7 days of purchase, and will do our best to accommodate rush jobs where a kit is needed more urgently, wherever possible, usually at no extra cost. The free delivery offer on kits does not apply to bulk orders, and is only available to mainland UK. For other destinations, please contact us in advance for a quote for post and packing. The free UK delivery offer applies only to gifts, kits and vouchers sold in the web shop and not the finished casts themselves. Please note, we currently only sell to the UK from our webshop, although we may ship to some countries by arrangement depending on the particular product required.

The completion date of other items such as limited edition sculptures or privately commissioned items will vary depending on the piece, location of client, time of material cure, complexity, and time of year. We advise people to book at least 10-14 weeks ahead of any firm deadline such as a birthday or Christmas to avoid disappointment. Although we will always endeavour to meet your requested delivery date by any means possible, Rockabelly Lifecasts cannot be held liable for any lateness caused by illness, acts of God, or other unavoidable events or crisis. Our clients' happiness and satisfaction is of paramount importance, however, so any agreed deadline will be taken extremely seriously.

Where feedback, information or items are needed from the client in order to complete the job, this must be provided in a timely manner in order for deadlines to be hit. Please make sure you keep us up to date with any changes of address, telephone numbers or email addresses so that communication isn't interrupted in a way that may affect the completion of your bespoke artwork.

Photographic prints and gifts can take variable amounts of time to be delivered as they are custom-printed to order, some being shipped from Europe. Where appropriate we have included an estimated delivery time for each item in the product description, but we can sometimes speed things up for an additional fee (please email for details and we will be happy to check the soonest possible expedited delivery for each item).

Cancellation & Returns

All private commissions are a bespoke service and therefore cancellation at any stage will result in the client forfeiting their deposit to cover material expenses and the artist's time and depending how much work has been done on the piece, further costs may be incurred by the client. Returns are only accepted if there is a significant flaw, in which case we will of course offer to repair the flaw and if that proves unsatisfactory, repeat the cast if possible or offer a full or partial refund depending on circumstances. (Please note that minor flaws such as air bubbles or variations in colour of materials are a natural part of lifecasting and will not be regarded as legitimate reasons for return although we will always endeavour to help with any issue).

You have the right to cancel non-bespoke webshop kit orders within 7 days of purchase (certain kit items are perishable and therefore excluded from regular distance selling rules) or within 14 days for other non-bespoke, non-perishable items such as gift vouchers. Refunds will only be given where the kit is returned unopened with the seal unbroken on the casting box. This is because the kits contain air and date sensitive/perishable materials which may be un-resaleable if the kit has been opened or the box damaged and the contents exposed to air or moisture or if there has been a significant delay in returning the kit. This does not affect your statutory rights should there be a fault with the kit in any way. You may return any delivered kit products you have purchased within 7 working days of delivery for any reason (including if you simply change your mind) as long as the paper security tag on the box has not been broken. To do so you must notify us in writing via email or post within 7 working days of placing your order. If you are returning a product for any reason, except manufacturer defect, you must pay the costs of returning the products to us or our suppliers and we advise you to do this by a registered/trackable means of posting. Care must be taken to ensure the returned products are packed well to avoid damage or loss of parts in transit. Products returned which cannot be re-sold as new due to damage or wear and tear may be subject to a reduction in the refund given.

Please note that photographic prints and gifts are all custom-printed to order and not held in stock, so please ask any questions you may have about them before purchasing as they are non-returnable unless the product is faulty.

In the unlikely event your product cannot be shipped within the aforementioned time, we will contact you by email to ask if you wish to go ahead with the purchase or to cancel.

Collection of work and Uncollected Sculptures.

As soon as your sculptures are ready for collection, Rockabelly Lifecasts will let you know either by email and/or the phone numbers supplied by you at the time of booking. Please make sure we have your up-to-date contact details. To keep the studio clear, and protect sculptures from getting damaged, we would like you to arrange to collect your finished pieces as soon as possible after notification - ideally within 2 weeks of being notified of completion. Your final payment is also due within 2 weeks of being notified of the piece being finished, unless alternative arrangements have been previously agreed in writing. If you cannot come within two weeks, please let us know and we will usually be happy to store your sculpture for you free of charge by arrangement for up to four weeks after notification of its completion. After four weeks we will arrange for your piece to be put into external industrial storage for its own protection, for which a charge will be made of 10% of the item's value per month or partial month in storage to cover costs and insurance. If the item remains uncollected after one year (and if the item has not been completely paid for including any storage fees owed) it becomes the sole property of Rockabelly Lifecasts and the original deposit and any payments made towards it are forfeited by the client.

Redeeming Gift Vouchers

Gift vouchers can be exchanged for specific casting or artistic services only cannot be used in the webshop or in exchange for kits or other off-the-peg products.

If you receive a gift voucher it should contain details of who sent you the voucher, along with a unique redemption code, which you will need to quote when booking your casting session and then hand over when you come for your casting session. Vouchers are usually valid for 6 months from time of purchase, so please check the date on the back of your voucher to make sure you don't forget to use it while it is valid.

If you book an appointment (using a voucher) which you fail to turn up for or cancel with less than 7 days' notice, you may be charged the equivalent of a deposit fee to cover lost time/materials and other expenses (or this amount deducted from the value of your voucher).

Please note that appointments can get booked up many weeks in advance and Saturday appointments are in particularly high demand so you are strongly advised to use your voucher to book an appointment well in advance of the expiry date and to book your date at least one month before expiry, longer for Saturday appointments. No refund will be given for unused/out-of-date vouchers.

Care and Repair of Lifecasts

We are more than happy to advise on the care, storage and transportation of your lifecast sculptures at any time, although liability for their care transfers to you the client upon collection. Please use the client password given to you when you collected your cast to access our reminder document on how to care for your cast. If you have lost or forgotten it, please email us for a replacement password.

If casts are dropped or damaged, we are more than happy to advise on repair by yourselves, or you can ask us for a quotation to repair it for you.

Your Health & Safety

At Rockabelly Lifecasts, we take your health and safety very seriously. We always fully explain the lifecasting process before you are cast, but if you would like to know the full detail of the process before attending your appointment please get in contact any time and we will be happy to talk you through it.

Different casting methods carry different risks and challenges, and with more than 40 years collective experience in lifecasting between us, we will do our best to minimise any risk of injury or discomfort to our models/clients while they are in our care. However, it is important for clients to recognise the (very few) safety and comfort issues with lifecasting before agreeing to take part. This includes but is not limited to:-

  • The lifecasting process involves hands-on touching of the area being cast. This will be done with the utmost respect and care by the lifecaster, wearing latex gloves (or other type of gloves if you notify us about a latex allergy).

  • The lifecasting process can involve feeling varying temperatures (this might include cold casting gel for larger body parts or warm plaster bandage for other types of casting). At no point should it get uncomfortably hot nor would you be in danger from burns.

  • The lifecasting process involves substances being applied directly to your skin. Very often we will ask you to apply a layer of Vaseline or other barrier cream before we begin the casting session, but on occasion there will be direct skin contact with other casting materials. These substances include a seaweed-based casting gel, which is a medical-grade product used commonly by dentists and in hospitals - very safe and gentle on the skin and even safe to eat (although with infants there is a choking risk so all adults present must keep close eye on any children in the casting room to make sure they are not eating the art materials!); they also include plaster bandage although this will only ever be applied over the casting gel or a THICK layer of Vaseline so only tiny splashes of gypsum may make contact with the skin.

  • The lifecasting process for larger body areas may include getting cramp or feeling stiff from holding the pose for a while.

  • Removal of any casting material from the body may result in temporary redness of the skin which should fade naturally within 5-10 minutes.

  • Removal of any casting material from the skin may pull out occasional loose body hairs (but will not rip them out as if you were having a waxing).

  • Staying still, particularly standing still, for the casting process can result in some people feeling light headed or faint. This is more likely if you have medical problems such as heart problems, circulation issues, diabetes, low blood sugar, low blood pressure, history of fainting, eating disorders or are pregnant. For this reason, we ask all our clients to notify us in advance of booking of any health condition which may affect your ability to stay still during the moulding stages without feeling unwell. We advise all pregnant clients to be cast sitting down, although will on occasion make exceptions to this rule IF a) the model has no history of fainting, blood circulation problems, blood pressure problems, gestational or other diabetes, or has a high risk pregnancy of any kind and b) if they have a partner to physically support them during the process and monitor their wellbeing throughout, and c) they follow all safety guidelines provided. We also insist that ALL our clients/models eat a hearty meal before coming for a casting session where they will be required to stand up (with no exceptions).

  • Casting over piercings may result in the piercings getting caught in the casting gel and may be uncomfortable to de-mould. Therefore we ask for all piercings to be removed if possible. Where a piercing cannot be removed we will advise you of other options for your comfort and safety.

  • The casting room floor can get slippery during the casting process. We ask all clients and their guests to please take extra care when moving around the casting area, particularly where there may be additional trip hazards.

  • The casting studio is in a family home with all the associated risks of being in any such building for example stairs, electric plug sockets, occasional trip hazards. We ask our clients to move carefully about the studio and house during their visit and to keep all children and pets under control.

All our clients and their guests acknowledge and accept the above safety information and associated risks, and to agree to comply with the content of any personalised safety briefing given either in advance of your casting or on the day of your casting as a fundamental term of our agreement to cast you or your children. Please feel free to discuss any health and safety concerns with us at any time. Your safety is the most important thing to us, closely followed by your comfort levels. We are always happy to explain every single stage of the process to you so that you understand fully what is involved in your casting experience. It is important to us that you feel safe and happy at all times, and we encourage you to express any concerns or worries you may have, so that we can reassure you and answer any questions you may have.

Special Wedding Offer Terms & Conditions

The special offer consists of one free individual kiss cast (lip cast) with any romantic couple handcasting (wedding, engagement, anniversary, birthday or Valentine's) session. It is only applicable if the client has one of our special offer flyers which must be presented at the time of booking or the casting session itself. The free kiss cast is a freestanding stone (gypsum) cast in plain white or faux bronze or pewter finish. Other finishes and upgrades are available at cost. The free kiss cast must be taken by one of the couple taking part in the handcasting session and cannot be transferred to another party. The value of the kiss cast cannot be deducted from or swapped for any other product. The kiss cast must take place at our Maidstone Studio and the offer is not applicable to our mail order kiss casting kits. Please mention the flyer when you book your couple handcasting and be sure to bring the flyer with you when you come to qualify for the special offer.

Death casts (human and animal)

By their nature, most death casts take place away from our studio and as such require a higher fee to cover our time to close the studio for the day/half day, travel time, travel costs/parking costs, along with the additional time usually needed to complete such casts which differ from lifecasts. Due to the nature of how bodies ‘behave’ after death, we cannot guarantee particular results or poses as these will depend on a number of factors including how long ago the person or animal died, whether the body has been embalmed or not, how well it has been preserved, the position of the body or bodypart in death and since death, and so forth. We always take every effort to honour requests and in 99% of cases are able to achieve beautiful results, but in the rare event that the body is not in a good enough condition for us to get adequate moulds from we do, unfortunately, still have to charge a fee to cover our time, travel and material costs. Any excess payments over those specific costs will be refunded from your deposit. If you are uncertain as to whether the body of your loved one or pet is suitable for the casting process, please discuss this with your funeral director in advance of booking us, or with the hospice, hospital or vet’s practice where the body is being kept to decide viability. We cannot be held responsible for circumstances beyond our control, but will always do our very best to provide you with your requested service.
